ORLANDO, FL -- Juniors
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach), along with freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC) took wins in singles action, but it was not enough as Hampden-Sydney College lost 6-3 to Coe (IA) College, Sunday morning in Orlando, Florida.
In the top doubles match, sophomores
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) were beaten 8-4. In the second doubles match, Singleton and Fox took an 8-4 loss. In the final doubles match, junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) and his partner Davis took an 8-5 loss.
Singleton took his singles victory in the third singles slot, after dropping the first set 6-2, he battled back controlling set two 6-1 and set three 6-2. Fox took only two sets to grab his singles win from the fourth slot, taking the first set 6-3 and controlling the second set 6-2. Davis grabbed his win in the fifth singles slot, winning by an identical 6-3, 6-2 scoreline to Fox. McReynolds fell in the top singles match, dropping the first set 6-4, before falling in a tiebreaker 7-6 in set two. Coffey fell in the second singles slot, dropping set one 6-2, and set two 6-3. In the final singles match, Kendrick grabbed a 6-4 win in set one, but dropped the second set 6-1 and fell in the third set 6-3 to drop the match.
The Tigers will be in action for two matches on Tuesday, March 12, the first against the University of Wisconsin at Superior at 11 a.m. and the second against Illinois Wesleyan University at 6 p.m., all in Orlando, Florida.
