FERRUM, Va. --Â Hampden-Sydney College earned its first victory of the season and opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a 9-0 win over Ferrum College, on Saturday morning at the Burrows-Skeens Tennis Courts in Ferrum.
Top doubles action was a straight-set, 8-0 win for the pairing of junior
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and freshman
Thomas Davis (Charlotte, NC). Sophomores
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) and
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) took an 8-4 win in the second doubles slot, while junior
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) and sophomore
John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) grabbed an 8-1 win in the third doubles match.
In singles action, Foster opened up with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory, only to be outdone by sophomore
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) who took a 6-0, 6-1 win in the second singles slot. Allison took a 6-1, 1-0 victory in the third singles, with Glassner taking a 6-1, 6-0 win in his singles match. Junior
Nick Beaudoin (Norfolk) grabbed a 6-1, 6-0 win for his first of the season. Freshman
Ben Mays (Amherst) grabbed his first career win, taking a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the sixth singles match.
The Tigers will be back in action when they return home to take on Pfeiffer (NC) University on Friday, February 23, in non-conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
