#2 Seed Hampden-Sydney Falls In The ODAC Semifinals To #3 Seed Washington and Lee 16-4

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Second seed and No. 19 Hampden-Sydney College fell to third-seeded, and No. 9 Washington and Lee University, 16-4, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Lacrosse Semifinal, Thursday afternoon on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. Fifth-year goalie Will Perry (Roanoke) made 13 saves in the game, with nine coming in the first half alone.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first quarter as junior Drew Duffy (Virginia Beach) fought for the loose ball in the defensive half of the field, and as he brought it up the field found sophomore Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) in the middle of the field who ripped it past the goalie. The Generals answered, closing the quarter on a three-goal run to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

Sophomore Campion White (Apex, NC) opened the scoring in the second quarter, as he took the ball from up top and down the right side, using his body to create space and beat the defender before putting the ball over the goalie's left shoulder. Washington and Lee had the answer once again, as it scored a goal just 15 seconds later, and then added another four unanswered to take an 8-2 lead into the half.

The Tigers cut the lead down to five, less than a minute into the third quarter as junior Patrick Saunders (Alexandria) drove into the middle of the defense and found freshman Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC) wide open on the right side for the left-handed finish. Washington and Lee answered back with five straight goals before Hanes got his second, after receiving the ball from junior Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) he took his man straight to the goal and beat the goalie up high. The Generals closed off the quarter with another two goals as the Tigers trailed 15-4 going into the final 15 minutes.

There was only one goal that came in the final 15 minutes of action, as the Generals added one more to their lead to defeat H-SC 16-4.
