HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College sophomore
Kade Minton (Wytheville) has been named a member of the
2023 Academic All-District® Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) for NCAA Division III. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Kade is double majoring in engineering physics and applied mathematics at the College with a 4.00 GPA. During the cross country season, he led the Tigers in six of seven races with a season-best 8K time of 27:33 at the Roanoke Invitational on October 14, also the 17th-best 8K effort in program history. Minton also posted a collegiate-best 5K time of 17:51.5 at EMU Heritage Invitational on September 2, and completed the fall with one Top 10 finish among three Top 20 efforts overall. During the distance track season, he ran a season-best indoor time of 4:42.58 in the one mile run at the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 26, as well as a season-best indoor time of 2:13.43 in the 800 meter run at the Joe LaRocco Invitational on Feb. 11. In addition, Minton posted a collegiate-best outdoor time of 16:48.53 in the 5000 meter run at the WildCat Track Festival on April 8, along with a collegiate-best outdoor time of 2:08.94 in the 800 at the WildCat Twilight Meet on April 22. The Dean's List student serves as a tutor at the College in astronomy, Chinese and physics, was a Head Orientation Service Leader and a Phi Beta Kappa candidate. Kade will soon become a two-time ODAC All-Academic Team honoree.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 29. The Division III CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® program.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
