HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Sophomore
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) won both his singles and doubles match, while freshman
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) came from behind to take a singles victory, but Hampden-Sydney College fell to Guilford College 5-4 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action, Saturday afternoon at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
The Tigers opened the match in good form, winning two of the three doubles matches. Fox and his partner freshman
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) grabbed an 8-4 victory in the second doubles slot. The other doubles win was in the third slot, as sophomore
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and his partner freshman
Tanner Allison (Midlothian) grabbed a close 8-6 victory. In the top doubles action, Coffey and his partner sophomore
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) were defeated 8-3.
Fox kept his winning streak rolling into singles action, as he took a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory to open singles play. Foster fell in the top singles action by a 6-3, 6-2 score line, and in the second slot, McReynolds was defeated 6-4, 7-6. Singleton fell in a tight match that went to tiebreakers in the second set 6-3, 7-6, and freshman
John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) fell in his match 6-3, 6-1. In the final match, Coffey battled back after he lost the first set 6-4, to take set two 6-4, a set in which he trailed early on and took down his opponent in tiebreakers in the all-important final set 7-6.
The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, April 13 when they play host to the University of Lynchburg in ODAC action. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
