Owen Tappy (Charlotte, NC) gained the pitching victory in the 7-3 win in the opener, while sophomore
Gavin Gregory (Suffolk) took the mound setback in the 16-5 loss in the nightcap for the host Tigers (15-13, 8-5) against the visiting Royals (7-22, 3-11).
In game one, H-SC scored seven runs on nine hits with two errors … scoring two runs in the third inning and five runs in the eighth. EMU scored three runs on 10 hits with two errors … scoring two runs in the first inning and two runs in the fourth.
In the third, freshman
Jack Wilson (Petersburg) (2-4) doubled to left field to begin the at-bat and advanced to second base when sophomore
Jaxon Masterson (Raleigh, NC) was hit by a pitch, and both runners moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Christian Lancaster (Danville) (1-2). Boyce (2-4, 2 RBIs) promptly brought both across the plate with a two-run single up the middle to tie contest at 2-2.
In the eighth, Lancaster was hit by a pitch and advanced to second base on a single to left field by Boyce, and each runner moved up when sophomore
Christian Chambers (Midlothian) reached on a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed by the pitcher to load the bases with no outs. Following a pitching change, Miller-Bopp (2-3, RBI) singled to right field to score Lancaster. Junior
Tillman Butler (Culpeper) (1-1, RBI) then pinch-hit and provided an RBI single to right field that was misplayed, as well, allowing Boyce, Chambers and Miller-Bopp to each cross the plate with Butler on third. Senior captain
Jay Beavers (Alexandria) (1-3, RBI) then delivered a run-scoring single to left field to provide for the final 7-3 margin.
Tappy (4-1) started on the mound and pitched the first 8.0 innings, scattering nine hits and three runs, all earned, with four strikeouts and two walks. Hart tossed the final scoreless inning, yielding one hit with one strikeout and no walks.
In game two, H-SC scored five runs on 10 hits with six errors … scoring four runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth. EMU scored 16 runs on 15 hits with three errors … scoring one run in the second inning, three runs in the fourth, seven runs in the sixth, one run in the seventh, two runs in the eighth and two runs in the ninth.

Greer Farr (Southern Shores, NC) (2-6) singled to right field to open the at-bat, moved to third base on a double to the wall in right field by Lancaster (1-5), and scored on a ground ball off the bat of Boyce (RBI). Chambers (2-4) was then hit by a pitch and Miller-Bopp (3-4) drew a walk to load the bases … with Butler (RBI) following with another walk to plate Lancaster. Senior
Ethan Currin (Toano) (2-5, 2 RBIs) then added a two-run single up the middle to score both Chambers and Miller-Bopp to make it a 4-1 advantage.
In the fifth, Chambers reached base on a fielding error, then advanced to third base on a single to center field by Miller-Bopp—while scoring on the play when the centerfielder misplayed the ball for a 5-4 lead.
Senior
Justin Woodall (Mechanicsville) started on the mound and pitched the first 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs, one earned, with one strikeout and three walks. Gregory (4-1) tossed 2.0 innings, yielding four hits and seven runs, all earned, with one strikeout and three walks. Junior
Ryan Portes (Midlothian) faced three batters and allowed one hit with no strikeouts and two walks. Freshman
Jackson Barnett (Ashland) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two hits and three runs, all unearned, with three strikeouts and three walks. Junior
Jack Bourdon (Madison) tossed the final 1.0 inning, yielding two hits and two runs, both earned, with no strikeouts and one walk.
H-SC will play on the road at archrival ODAC opponent and nationally-ranked No. 12 Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. in Ashland.
