ORLANDO, Fl. --Â Hampden-Sydney College went undefeated in doubles action on the way to a 6-3 victory over Otterbein (OH) University, Thursday afternoon in Orlando, Florida.
Sophomores
Foster Barrett (Virginia Beach) and
John Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) powered their way to an early victory in doubles action, taking the top doubles slot 8-3. The second doubles match was much tighter than the first, with freshman
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) and freshman
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) winning 8-7. The final match saw Sophomore
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) and fellow classmate
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) take the set 8-4 to complete a sweep in doubles action.
The Tigers struggled in singles action early on, with McReynolds picking up the only victory in the first four singles, with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory. Foster fell in the top spot 6-1, 6-3, with
Matt Kendrick losing 6-0, 6-0 in the third singles spot and Fox falling in a three-set match in the fourth slot 6-4, 3-6, 3-6. Sophomore
Henry Singleton (Richmond) clinched the win for the Tigers in the fifth slot with a dominant 6-1, 6-0. Coffey in the final singles slot also took victory 6-4, 6-2 to give H-SC a 6-3 victory over Otterbein.
The Tigers will be back in action today, March, 9 against Wabash (IN) College at 2:30 p.m. in what will be the last match of the spring break trip in Orlando, Florida.
