DANVILLE, Va. – Freshman
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) picked up the only point for Hampden-Sydney College in the 8-1 defeat in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play against Averett University, Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Sophomores
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and
John Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) fell in the top doubles match 8-4. They were followed up by sophomores
Henry Singleton (Richmond) and
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) who were defeated by their opponents 8-3. In the final doubles match to finish, Coffey and his partner, freshman
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) were bested 8-4.
Coffey got his victory to start off singles play, winning his match in two sets by a 6-2, 6-4 score line. McReynolds and Fox fell back-to-back in their matches, with McReynolds's match ending 6-1, 6-3, and Fox's ending 6-2, 6-3. Singleton was the next to finish, dropping his match up 6-3, 6-2. Foster battled hard in the second set after losing the first set 6-1, forcing a seventh point before ultimately being defeated in the second set 7-5. Kendrick started out with a win in his match, taking the first set 6-4 before his opponent grabbed control to take the second and third sets by a 6-2 and 6-1 score line.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, March 24 when they face off with Washington and Lee University at home in ODAC play. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts
