DANVILLE, KY -- Hampden-Sydney College fell to Asbury (KY) University 8-1, in the first of three matches over Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25, at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
The Tigers opened doubles play with two close losses in the number one and two pairs. The duo of sophomore
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and freshman
Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) fell 8-6 after dropping the final two points of the match. Similarly, the duo of sophomore
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) and freshman
Casey Coffey (Midlothian) dropped the final two points to fall by an 8-6 score line. Sophomore

Henry Singleton (Richmond) fell 8-2, as H-SC fell 3-0 in doubles play.
McReynolds got H-SC its first victory of the afternoon, and his first career singles victory, pulling out a three-set (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) victory. Foster played a close first set in the number one singles slot, forcing an extra point before being bested in two sets (7-5, 6-3). Kendrick fell in his singles match (6-3, 6-4), and Singleton posted two sets of the same score in a loss (6-3,6-3). Coffey and freshman
John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) concluded the match. Coffey fell by a score of 6-1, 6-3, and Glassner fell in a single set match 6-3.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, February 25, when they play two matches, first at 10 a.m. against hosts Centre College. They finish up with a match against Hanover (IN) College at 2 p.m., all at the Centre Tennis Courts in Danville, KY.
