Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fifth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 114-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 57-36 overall at the College, including 32-22 in ODAC games. The Yellow Jackets are coached by ninth-year head coach Josh Merkel, and have won 37-straight ODAC contests dating back to a 63-54 road loss at Guilford (NC) on February 22, 2020 ... 57-straight regular season home games back to January 24, 2018 ... and have lost just two conference games since 2018-19. R-MC has one player averaging in double figure scoring among 11 that are playing at least 11-plus minutes per game. The Yellow Jackets have been led by sophomore guard Jabril Robinson with his 16.6 points (8 3FGs), 3.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals ... while senior forward Daniel Mbangue adds 8.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. R-MC shoots 42% (164-392) from the field, including 31% (53-169) on three-pointers, and 68% (61-90) at the line; scoring 63.1 points, and yielding just 52.7 points, for a +10.4 scoring margin.
Series History (Since 1950)
H-SC and R-MC are playing for the 166th time since 1950. The Yellow Jackets lead the series, 100-65, including 50-31 as members of the ODAC since 1989. R-MC has won 12-straight games between the two schools, including two last season:
61-59 in Ashland (11/19/22) and
69-57 in Fleet Gym (1/4/23). The Tigers' last win in the series was on February 1, 2017 at home in Fleet Gym (63-56), and the last H-SC win in Ashland was on Feb. 6, 2013 (66-47).

John Carroll (OH) (6-0) was ranked No. 1 with 598 points and 13 first-place votes, followed by Calvin (MI) (6-0, 575) at No. 2, Guilford (6-0, 535) at No. 3, Oswego State (NY) (7-0, 514) at No. 4 and Keene State (NH) College (6-1, 477) at No. 5. 1st In ODAC Preseason Poll
H-SC was picked first in the
ODAC Preseason Poll. It's the first time that the Tigers have been voted preseason number one in the ODAC since prior to the 2003-04 season. H-SC earned 140 points, including eight first-place votes among the 13 conference schools. The Tigers were followed closely in the preseason poll by four-time defending ODAC Tournament Champion and 2022 National Champion Randolph-Macon in second place with 135 points, including the other five first-place votes. Guilford (NC) was picked third with 122 points, followed by Virginia Wesleyan (104), Washington and Lee (102), Roanoke (96), Bridgewater (65), Shenandoah (63), Averett (51), Ferrum (48), Lynchburg (45), Eastern Mennonite (23) and Randolph (20).

H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches.
Russell Turner '92 is in his 14th year at UC Irvine ...
Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at VCU and his eighth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ...
Griff Aldrich '96 is in his sixth year at Longwood. Entering this season, Turner was 265-170 at UCI ... Odom was 141-85 overall, including 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 88-72 at Longwood.
