ODAC Athletes of the Week 

Hampden-Sydney, VA -- Hampden-Sydney College freshman midfielder Zakky Johnston (Meherrin) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for week three of the 2022 season.

Johnston scored three goals in three games helping lead the Tigers to a 2-0-1 week. He scored a career high two goals in the Tigers 5-2 neutral site game against Emory University on September 16, the first of which was the game winning goal that occurred less than 30 seconds after being substituted on. The first of his two goals was off a centering pass from junior John Alexander which Johnston took one touch to his right and beat the keeper. The second of his goals against the Eagles came off a ball for him to run onto by junior defender Ethan Farmer, in which Johnston made a fantastic move against the defender before calmly beating the keeper. The freshman added another goal to his weekly tally in the 3-2 victory over Oglethorpe University, on September 18. Freshman Pierce Boerner set up Johnston beautifully with a great cross to the back post, and he flew to head the ball in across the net.

Johnston leads the Tigers in goals with four and also in points with eight. He is a perfect four for four in converting his shots on target into goals. He has played in four games starting one of them, and has scored in three of the four games he has played in this season.

H-SC is back in action when it opens up ODAC play on the road at Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday, September 21. The game will begin at 4 p.m. at Nunnally Field in Ashland, VA.
