Hampden-Sydney, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College Tigers opened the season with a win over the Greensboro (NC) College Pride, 3-0, which saw three different Tigers score Thursday night at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
Sophomore
Jack Delaney (Virginia Beach) opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a close range effort off a throw in from freshman
Pierce Boerner (Midlothian), to give the Tigers the early advantage. 18 minutes later junior
Declan Shaw (Durham, NC) hit a beautiful free kick off the inside of the post in the top left corner and in from 30 yards away. Shaw's goal gave the Tigers a two goal advantage going into halftime.
H-SC struck once more in the 71st minute when junior
Emory Davis (Palmyra) finished off a cross into the bottom left corner from senior
Jacob Siler (Charlotte NC).
The Tiger defense played great on the day holding the Pride to only nine shots and only three of them troubled sophomore goalieÂ
Connor Kitson (Wake Forest, NC) Â giving him an easy day in net to earn the win. He earned his first career shutout making two saves on the night.Â
H-SC will be at home for their next matchup against William Peace University on Saturday, September 3, in a non-conference clash. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
