Hampden-Sydney Earns 6-3 Win Over Guilford

GREENSBORO, Nc – The Hampden-Sydney Tennis team was back on the road Saturday afternoon as they faced fellow ODAC member, Guilford College, in the first of two matches for the Tigers this weekend.  After a week off, Hampden-Sydney bounced back from last week's loss, defeating the Quakers 6-3, to win their fifth overall match of the season, while moving to 2-1 in conference play.

The Tigers set the tone early, by dominating the three doubles matches, as the No. 1 team of Freshman Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach, VA) and Senior Tyler Brice (Rocky Mount, NC) got things started with an 8-1 win.  Freshmen Frank Borden (Durham, NC) and Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) were able to pull out a hard fought 8-6 win in the No. 2 match, while fellow Freshmen Henry Singleton (Richmond, VA) and Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach, VA) were victorious in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.

Heading into the singles matches with the 3-0 advantage, Foster looked to get another point on the board for his team.  It would not be easy, but he was able to pull out a hard fought three set win, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.  Unfortunately, Brice, Fox and Borden dropped their singles matches, but Singleton would come through in No. 5 singles, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, as would Kendrick in his No. 6 match, 6-4, 6-3.

The win gives Hampden-Sydney some momentum as they travel back up to Virginia for a Sunday afternoon match-up with the University of Lynchburg.  They are now above .500 in the ODAC and will try to grab another win tomorrow at the Crosswhite Fitness Center tomorrow.  The action is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.
