Jay Beavers (Alexandria) each added two hits and one RBI, while freshman
Gavin Gregory (Suffolk) gained the pitching win for the host Tigers (20-14) against the visiting Squirrels (7-29). It's the first 20-win season, and the most wins in a season, for the program since 2017.
H-SC scored 12 runs on 11 hits with two errors … scoring four runs in the second inning, four runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth. MBU scored three runs on 10 hits with two errors … scoring one run each in the second, fourth and seventh innings.
In the second, Beavers (2-3, RBI) provided an RBI double to left field that scored freshman
Christian Chambers (Midlothian) to tie it at 1-1. Masterson (2-2, 4 RBIs) added a two-run triple down the left field line that plated Evans (2-3, RBI) and Beavers, and Masterson scored courtesy of a fielding error.
In the third, Masterson added a two-run double to right center field that scored freshman
Christian Lancaster (Danville) (1-3) and Evans, Beavers crossed the plate via another fielding error, and freshman
Grayson Harris (Moseley) (1-2) scored as a pinch-runner on a fielder's choice off the bat of freshman

Ethan Badin (Richmond) (1-4, 2 RBIs) had a two-run double down the left field line that plated Beavers and Harris, and sophomore
Lucas Burnette (Hurt) (1-2, RBI) added a run-scoring single that scored Badin—all of the scoring taking place with two outs.
In the fifth, Evans contributed an RBI single that scored sophomore
Trent Jones (Virginia Beach) (1-1).
Gregory (2-2) started and pitched the first 6.0 innings, scattering eight hits and two runs, both earned, with a career-high nine strikeouts and no walks. The Garnet & Grey used four other pitchers, including junior
Davis Ferguson (Rocky Mount), who tossed two-thirds of an inning, yielding no hits and no runs with no strikeouts and no walks … freshman
Jack Severt (Church Road), who pitched a scoreless and hitless inning with one strikeout and one walk … and freshman
Dylan Robbins (Mechanicsville), who tossed a scoreless and hitless inning—striking out each of the three batters he faced. H-SC combined for a season-high 14 strikeouts against MBU.
