Hampden-Sydney Sweeps Roanoke On Senior Day, 9-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The final regular season home match began with an emotional ceremony as the Hampden-Sydney Tennis team honored its lone Senior, Tyler Brice (Rocky Mount, NC) in a pre-match ceremony.  The Captain was recognized as a leader who has set the standard for his teammates and, for that reason, the Tigers wanted to send him out on a high note today against Roanoke College.  They followed through with that wish, as the Tigers swept the Maroons for an important ODAC win, 9-0.

Brice started his Senior Day off, teaming with Freshman Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach, VA) to earn the first point of the day, winning the No. 1 doubles match, 8-2.  Freshmen Frank Borden (Durham, NC) and Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) cruised to an 8-1 victory in No. 2 doubles, while the Freshmen duo of Henry Singleton (Richmond, VA) and John Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) rounded out the doubles session with the win in the No. 3 match, 8-2.

Hampden-Sydney carried that momentum into the singles matches, as Foster, in the No. 1 match, and Brice, in the No. 2 match, scored straight set 6-0, 6-0 wins over their opponents.  In the No. 3 singles match, Freshman Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach, VA) earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory and moments later Singleton grabbed another point for the Tigers to win No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.  To round out the sweep, the Kendrick twins took control of the No. 5 and No. 6 matches winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 , respectively.

With the win, Hampden-Sydney sent Brice off with a Senior Day memory he will never forget.  As family and friends looked on, they saw a team move to 8-8 on the season and, most importantly, move to 5-2 in the ODAC.  While this was their last regular season home match, they still have more action in front of them, as they visit arch-rival Randolph-Macon on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
