LEXINGTON, Va – After almost two weeks off from competition, the Hampden-Sydney Tennis team was back in action Saturday afternoon at Washington & Lee. Prior to the time off, the Tigers were 2-2 in their last four matches and were looking to get back track as they headed into the back part of their schedule. Unfortunately, they ran into a very tough Generals' team, falling by a final score of 9-0.
While Hampden-Sydney was swept in the three doubles matches, they were all very close. In No. 1 doubles, the team of Freshman
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach, VA) and Senior
Tyler Brice (Rocky Mount, NC) dropped a close decision, 8-6, while Freshmen
Frank Borden (Durham, NC) and
Henry Singleton (Richmond, VA) fell by a score of 8-4, in No. 2 doubles. To round out the first session, the brother team of Freshmen
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) and
John Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) fought hard but eventually lost the No. 3 doubles match, 8-4.
The highlight of the six singles came in the No. 1 match, with Foster and his opponent going three sets. However, after winning the first set, he would fall by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 0-1. Brice and
Freshman
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach, VA) each fell by scores of 6-0, 6-0, while Borden was swept, 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. To finish out the day, Singleton played a close first set but dropped No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-0 and
Matt Kendrick stumbled 6-1, 6-1 in the final match of the day.
The Tigers will return to action next Saturday, April 9, as they, once again, are on the road at Guilford College for another ODAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
