ASHLAND, Va. – It had been four years since the Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse team had traveled to Randolph-Macon for a regular season ODAC match-up and this game would live up to what was expected of the rivalry these two teams shared. Unfortunately, SeniorÂ
Bobby Clagett's (Brandywine, MD) seven goals were not enough as the Tigers fell to the Yellow Jackets by a score of 14-13.Â
Two minutes into the first quarter, Clagett put the Tigers on the board with an unassisted goal. However, Randolph-Macon answered by scoring two straight to take the early lead, 2-1. The score would stay that way until Freshman
Campion White (Apex, NC) and
Sophomore
Ford Burke (Richmond, VA) each scored with under a minute remaining to claim the advantage, 3-2.Â
The second quarter saw both teams go on scoring runs, with the Yellow Jackets scoring three in a row, but that was countered by three straight from Hampden-Sydney, a
s JuniorÂ
Kevin Marshall (Mt. Pleasant, SC) created a scoring opportunity, followed by two scores from Clagett. However, the Tigers would eventually lose the lead and go into halftime trailing by a one goal margin, 7-6.
Â
Burke began the third quarter, tying the game at 7-7, but once again, Randolph-Macon had an answer to reclaim the lead and go up by two goals.Â
 SophomoreÂ
Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) pulled Hampden-Sydney back to within one goal, but they would find themselves trailing by three, until Clagett finished the quarter with his fourth goal of the game to trim the lead to 11-9.
Clagett picked up where we left off to begin the fourth quarter, scoring less than a minute in, to pull the Tigers to within one goal, 11-10. This trend continued with both teams trading goals, which included one from SophomoreÂ
Michael Leone (Vienna, VA) and another from Clagett. Trailing by two goals, and with :39 seconds left in the game, Clagett scored again to give his team a chance to tie the game, but unfortunately, the Tigers would fall by a final score of 14-13.
Hampden-Sydney will look to rebound next week as they travel to Shenandoah University for another crucial ODAC conference game on Saturday, April 23. Face-off is scheduled for 1 P.M. in Winchester, VA.
