Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 18 Hampden-Sydney Runs Past Visiting Greensboro (NC) 19-2

Hampden-Sydney, VA – After dropping their last two games, the Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse team returned to their winning ways, with a 19-2 win over Greensboro College Saturday afternoon at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.  The Tigers were led on the day by Sr. Sean Duffy (Ambler, PA) and So. Ford Burke (Richmond, VA), who each finished with 3 goals, while So. Patrick Saunders (Alexandria, VA) dished out a team high 4 assists.  The game was never in doubt as Hampden-Sydney jumped out to an early lead, not allowing Greensboro the opportunity to make any runs.  The 17-goal victory over the Pride evens Hampden-Sydney's season record at 2-2.

Early in the 1st period, Fr. Connor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) got things started for the Tigers, as he scored the first 2 of 3 goals of the game.  Saunders, Sr. Bobby Clagett (Brandywine, MD) and Burke added three more, to give Hampden-Sydney the 5-0 lead, heading into the 2nd period.  Burke continued to have the hot stick, scoring the first 2 goals of the period, and Duffy would add two of his own, to help the Tigers go into the locker room with a commanding 11-2 advantage.

Greensboro's defense slowed down Hampden-Sydney, to start the 3rd period, and held them to only 2 goals.  However, the Tigers offense found their rhythm again, in the 4th and final period, when Fr. Charlie Hassett (Vienna, VA) scored an unassisted goal to get things started.  Jr. Talmadge Hope (Richmond, VA) scored a minute and a half later and that was followed by the final 4 goals of the game from Fr. Griff Ray (Salem, VA), Sr. Marshall Flagg (Williamsburg, VA), who netted two and Sr. Logan Mitchell, who scored with just 20 seconds remaining in the game.

The Tigers had another solid outing from Sr. Goalie Will Perry (Roanoke, VA) as he finished with 9 saves, while only allowing 2 shots to pass.  Hampden-Sydney would have 4 other keepers play to help preserve the win for Perry and the Tigers.

Hampden-Sydney will return to action at home on Wednesday, March 9th as they play host to Berry College from Georgia.  Face-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
