No. 18 Hampden-Sydney Falls In ODAC Play to W&L, 14-8

LEXINGTON, Va. – After five straight home games to open the season, No. 18 Hampden-Sydney opened ODAC conference play on the road Saturday, suffering a 14-8 defeat to Washington & Lee.  The loss snapped the Tigers' two game win streak, dropping them to 3-3 (Overall), 0-1 (ODAC) on the season.

The Generals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but Hampden-Sydney took advantage of a man-up opportunity when Sophomore Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) took a pass from Senior Bobby Clagett (Brandywine, MD) and found the net, to trim the lead to 2-1.  However, Washington & Lee's offense put together a run, scoring six straight goals, until O'Brien connected on a shot for his second goal of the game.  The Generals got on the board one more time before the half and as the horn sounded, the Tigers trailed by a score of 7-2.

Senior Grayson Ackaway (Virginia Beach, VA) opened up the second half with a goal for Hampden-Sydney but Washington & Lee was able to put together another run, scoring 4 goals in a row.  Clagget stopped the run as he found the back of the net at the 7:24 mark of the third quarter, to make the score 11-4.  After another Generals' goal, Junior Nick Morgan (Issaquah, WA) scored his first goal of the game, which was followed up with another goal, on a man up situation, by Senior Sean Duffy (Ambler, PA). Duffy made it back-to-back goals and then Clagget rounded out the scoring with his second goal of the game, just as time was about to expire.

The Tigers were led on the day offensively by O'Brien, Clagett and Duffy, each scoring two goals apiece.  Clagett also led the team in ground balls with a total of four.  The Tigers will return to action on March 19 when they travel to Washington, DC to face Catholic (DC) in the Capital Classic Lacrosse Tournament.  The game is scheduled to begin at 12 P.M.
