ORLANDO, Fl – The Hampden-Sydney Tennis team faced another weather issue today in Florida, which canceled their early day match against St. John's (MN). However, the rain did not stop the Tigers from earning their second win in a row, later in the evening, by defeating Otterbein College (OH) by a final score of 6-3. "This was another good result after being down 1-2 in doubles", said Head Coach
Byron Balkin. "This week was important for our team development and chemistry. We played a lot of tennis matches in Florida, which should help prepare us for a three match home stand next week."
For the second day in a row, Hampden-Sydney fell behind 2-1 after the completion of the doubles matches. Fr.
Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach, VA), once again, teamed with Sr.
Tyler Brice (Rocky Mount, NC), however they would fall in the No. 1 match, 8-6
. Fellow Freshmen
Frank Borden (Durham, NC) and
Matt Kendrick (Birmingham, AL) earned the lone doubles point by winning their No. 2 match, 8-6, while
Fr.
Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach, VA) and Fr.
Henry Singleton (Richmond, VA) dropped a close match in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-5).
The Tigers would bounce back in the singles matches, winning five of the six.
