LYNCHBURG, Va. – The nationally-ranked Hampden-Sydney College lacrosse team fell in its regular-season finale as No. 4 the University of Lynchburg came from behind for an 11-9 win on Saturday evening in Lynchburg. It was the first loss for the Tigers in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play this spring. H-SC finishes the regular season with an 11-2 overall record and 8-1 in the ODAC. The Hornets move to 14-2 overall and also 8-1 in the ODAC.
Lynchburg scored the first goal of the game before senior
Jared Medwar/Apex, NC scored the Tigers first goal of the game at 11:12, unassisted. The Hornets responded with 2:08 left in the first quarter to take a 2-1 lead after one period of play.
It was the second quarter were H-SC found its offense. Freshman
Drew Duffy/Virginia Beach tied the game up at 12:36 off a pass from junior
Bobby Clagett/Brandywine, MD. Lynchburg answered back with a goal less than a minute later, but it was the last Hornets goal of the half. Medwar found the back of the back of the cage at 9:07 off an assist from senior
Jake O'Brien/Scituate, MA to even the score at 3-3. Freshman
Ray O'Brien/Scituate, MA scored unassisted at 7:54 to give H-SC its first lead of the game. Medwar scored his third goal of the contest just 18-seconds later to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead going into halftime.
Only two goals were scored in the third quarter with the Hornets stopping the run by the visitors at 13:32. Junior
Sean Duffy/Ambler, PA gave H-SC a two goal lead once again at 1:36 with an unassisted goal.
Jake O'Brien extended the lead to three goals with 12:02 left in the fourth quarter off a pass from senior
Charlie Doetzer/Holly Springs, NC. Lynchburg countered with two goals to pull within one before
Sean Duffy gave the Tigers the 8-6, with 8:26 left in the game. The Hornets would then use a three-goal run by Colin Dean to take the 9-6 lead with 3:19 left in the game. Junior
Grayson Ackaway/Virginia Beach took a pass from
Nick Morgan/Issaquah, WA 18 seconds later to tie the game once again at 9-9. However, the Hornets scored two goals in the final 2:26 to pick up the 11-9 win over H-SC.

Will Perry/Roanoke played all 60 minutes in goal for the Tigers, making 12 saves.
With the regular-season concluded, the Tigers earn the #3 seed in next week's ODAC Tournament. H-SC will host the winner of #7 seed Guilford and #6 seed Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, May 3 in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals. Game time is currently TBD.
