HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team honored its lone senior, Andrew Donelson/McLean after the Tigers fell to visiting Virginia Wesleyan University, 8-0, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. The Tigers move to 1-9 overall and 0-8 in the ODAC. The Marlins improve to 8-6 overall, 8-1 in the ODAC.
VWU swept through the doubles matches to start off with a 3-0 lead heading into singles. Donelson and junior Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, NC dropped their match at the top doubles spot 8-5.
In singles, Donelson dropped his match at the top spot, 6-2, 6-0, to Mitchell Perry. Freshman Bryson Alley/Charlottesville lost his fist set at number five singles, 6-1, but responded having a 5-4, 30-love lead in the second before his opponent came back and won 6-1, 7-5. The match at number six singles was declared unfinished and does not count in the team score.
The Tigers will travel to the University of Lynchburg on Sunday, April 18. The ODAC match with the Hornets gets underway at 1 p.m. in Lynchburg.
