LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team picked up a pair of wins in doubles, but the University of Lynchburg won five of the six singles matches claim a 6-3 win over the Tigers in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. The Tigers got a singles win at number five. H-SC moves to 1-10 overall and 0-9 in the ODAC.
Lynchburg got on the board first with a 8-4 win at number two doubles. However, the Tigers answered quickly when freshmen
David Hudson/Roanoke and
Bryson Alley/Charlottesville won 8-3 over Matthew Manos and Christian Kumar. Number one doubles came down to a tiebreak with the pair of senior
Andrew Donelson/McLean and senior
Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, NC pulling away and picking up the 8-7 (4).
With H-SC leading 2-1 heading into singles, the Hornets got straight-set wins at one through four singles along with a three set win at number six. Alley won his first set over Manos at number five 6-3, but dropped his second set, 4-6. In the third, he got out to a quick lead and kept Manos from getting back into the set for the 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win.
The Tigers will conclude their 2021 season on Friday, April 23 when they travel to Randolph-Macon. The match with the Yellow Jackets gets underway at 3 p.m. in Ashland.
