HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College tennis team won two of the three doubles matches against Shenandoah University, but the Hornets came from behind with the Tigers falling, 5-4. H-SC moves to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Shenandoah improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC.
Senior Andrew Donelson/McLean and junior Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, NC came from behind at the top doubles spot to pick up the 8-6 win over Keith Orr and Vitali Rivera. Sophomore Patrick Conde/Virginia Beach and David Hudson/Roanoke followed that up with their own 8-6 at number three doubles over Brenton Baugh and Will Sides.
Conde got things started on the right foot for the Tigers picking up a 6-2, 6-1 at number six singles over Sides. The Hornets pushed back with wins at number three, four, and five singles. With the match even at 4-4, Brice and Orr split the first two sets with Brice winning the second 6-2. However, Orr got an early break of serve and held on his for the 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Brice.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, March 27 when they travel to defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee. The match with the Generals gets underway at 2 p.m. in Lexington.
