LEXINGTON, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney tennis team dropped a road Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest at Washington and Lee University. The Tigers move to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the ODAC. The Generals improve to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC.
The match started on the outdoor courts on the W&L campus before moving inside to the Duchossois Tennis Center on campus. The match was changed to decision, rather than completion as is done regular season matches.
The Tigers dropped a pair of 8-0 decisions at number two and three doubles. Senior Andrew Donelson/McLean and junior Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, NC dropped their match at the top doubles spot, 8-2.
In singles, Brice dropped his match at number one, 6-0, 6-1. At number two, Donelson gave it all he could, but fell, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Bryson Alley/Charlottesville had dropped his first set 6-0 at number three but the Generals clinched the match, so the match is declared unfinished. The Tigers will have a small break before returning to the courts on Thursday, March 8 when they host Mary Baldwin. The match with the Fighting Squirrels gets underway from the Tiger Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
