The former head coach at Huntingdon College (AL) from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 112-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford College (NC) and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Caleb is 16-17 overall at the College, including 9-11 in ODAC games.

The Series
H-SC leads the young series 3-0, and this is the first meeting between the two schools since December 30, 2007. The Tigers won that home contest by a score of 80-70, and the Garnet and Grey won the other two previous meetings by scores of 81-63 on January 8, 2003 at home, and 66-64 on Jan. 7, 2004 in Greensboro.

Scouting the Tigers
H-SC returns 12 lettermen among 14 returning team members from last season, including all five starters, while adding three newcomers for this year. The Tigers finished 2-4 overall last season, including 1-3 in the ODAC, before the College's Health and Safety Protocols forced an end to the campaign and prevented the program from participating in the post-season ODAC Tournament.

Returning starters include fifth-year forward and third-year team captain Jake Hahn (Ruckersville), senior forward/center and second-year team captain Jack Wyatt (Richmond), junior guards Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) and first-year team captain Chase Turner (Virginia Beach), along with sophomore guard Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC). In addition, sophomore guard/forward Josiah Hardy (Ashburn), classmate and forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) and sophomore guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) each saw lots of playing time with Hardy and Wright earning starts, as well.

Hahn (6-6) is a two-time All-ODAC selection (2019-21), starting all six games last year and averaged 14.3 points and 8.0 rebounds. Wyatt (6-8) was an All-ODAC honoree in 2019-20 when he started all 27 games and averaged 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds—he started four of five games last winter and averaged 7.4 points and 5.8 rebounds. Clements (6-3) started four of six games and averaged 9.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals. Turner (6-2) started all six games and averaged 4.2 points and 3.3 rebounds. Brazil (5-10) started five of five games and averaged 6.0 point and 2.6 rebounds.

Wright (5-10) started one of six games, averaging 10.5 points, Hardy (6-6) started three of six games, averaging 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds, while Hubbard (6-5) played in all six games, averaging 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Returning Depth & Newcomers
H-SC also returns junior forwards Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) (6-7) and Harrison Taylor (Nashville, TN) (6-5), along with sophomore guards Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA) (6-4), Nate Kania (Danville) (6-2), Shawn Hodge (Charlotte, NC) (6-2) and Jerrod Nolan (Washington, DC) (5-8). New to the program this year are freshmen guards Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6-4) and Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6-4), along with freshman forward Rashaun Tomlin (Warner Robins, GA) (6-5).

Coach Kimbrough is aided this year by third-year assistant coach Bryson Gibson and first-year assistant coach Trey Livingston.

Scouting the Pride
GC is coached by third-year head coach Jim Cantamessa, and finished last season at 6-12 overall, 3-7 in the USA South Athletic Conference. The Pride return 11 lettermen, including four starters, and were picked to finish fifth in the East Division of the USA South this year. GC was led a year ago by senior guard and All-USA South honoree Greyson Collins (6-1), who averaged 20.2 points and 4.4 rebounds with a team-best 43 three-point field goals, along with junior forward Matthew Brown (6-7), who averaged 13.2 points and 5.8 rebounds with a team-best 44 assists. Fans are encouraged to please consider bringing a toy for the Toy Drive at the first H-SC home basketball game of the season. All gifts will be donated to the Prince Edward Christmas Mother and distributed to local children in Prince Edward County. Donation boxes will also be available on campus at the Post Office, Bortz Library, Morton, Fitness Center, and Gilmer following the game.

H-SC Mask Policy
The College's current mask policy is that all individuals – both vaccinated and unvaccinated – are required to wear masks inside campus buildings when others are nearby (within 6 feet). Unvaccinated individuals are also required to maintain social distancing at all times. Campus visitors must abide by these precautions as well.

Up Next
