Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Falls To Defending National Champions, #8 Cabrini On The Road, 16-6

RADNOR, Pa. – The Hampden-Sydney College lacrosse team dropped a 16-6 decision to defending national champion and nationally-ranked No. 8 Cabrini on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers fall to 4-2 on the season while the Cavaliers improve to 4-1.

Cabrini scored the first four goals of the game when sophomore Sean Duffy/Ambler, Pa. took a pass from classmate Bobby Clagett/Brandywine, Md. and scored at 2:04 left in the first quarter.

After the Cavaliers scored five goals in the second quarter, it was the Tigers that responded to start the third, scoring three in a row. Junior Jared Medwar/Apex, N.C. found the back of the net at 6:00, unassisted to start the run. With Cabrini committing foul, Clagett took a pass from Medwar at 5:18 and scored a man-up goal past the goalie. Medwar scored his second goal of the period off a pass from senior Jack Hayden/Apex, N.C. in another man-up situation for the Tigers at 3:41.

O'Brien scored his goal at 13:48 at the beginning of the fourth quarter off Medwar's second assist of the day. Clagett concluded H-SC's scoring on the afternoon at 8:04 on an unassisted goal.

Senior Nick Arcuri/Apex, N.C. played 58:04, making 17 saves. Junior Jake Brummett/Glen Rock, Pa. went 12 for 26 on faceoffs while leading H-SC with seven ground balls.

The Tigers return to the field on Saturday, March 14 when they travel to Washington and Lee University. The Generals were picked to finish second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference preseason poll and are currently receiving votes in the national poll. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Wilson Field in Lexington.
