HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney football team fell 48-35 in the regular season finale and the 123rd meeting in "The Game" against arch-rival Randolph-Macon. The Tigers still lead the series 60-52-11. Hampden-Sydney ends its season at 4-5 overall and 4-3 in ODAC play. Randolph-Macon finishes the regular season at 8-2 and a league-best 6-1 conference mark.
The offenses both put up good yardage with the Yellow Jackets going for 464 yards to the Tigers' 411, but Randolph-Macon was able to control the game with nearly 44 minutes of possession to the Tigers' 16.
After a scoreless first quarter, Randolph-Macon scored three touchdowns in the second while possessing the ball for nearly 14 minutes, taking a 21-0 lead into the half.
They then added another score on their opening drive of the second half, but the Tigers responded by getting on the board as Alec Cobb (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale) hit Blake Page (Richmond, VA/Huguenot) for an eight yard touchdown.
The two teams then traded touchdowns for the rest of the quarter with Jacket touchdowns bookending a 25-yard touchdown reception by Major Morgan (Onancock, VA/Broadwater Academy).
Morgan tacked on two more touchdown receptions in the fourth quarter while Cobb also rushed for a nine yard touchdown.
On the day, the Tigers had 411 yards of offense on 365 passing and 46 rushing. Cobb was 23-of-37 for 365 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Morgan caught three touchdown passes to go with 220 yards on nine catches. Kaleb Smith (Rocky Mount, VA/Franklin County) caught seven passes for 24 yards, and he ran five times for 14 yards. Cobb was also the team's lead rusher, running for 30 yards on two carries.
Defensively, the Tigers allowed 464 yards on 231 passing and 233 rushing. Griffin Davis (Charlottesville, VA/Monticello) led all players with 13 tackles, while Brian Gwaltney (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights), Tanner Ramey (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee), and Ryan Mallory (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover) each had nine stops. Ramey also had 1.5 tackles-for-loss while forcing a fumble that Matt Dooley (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) recovered.
