Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Royals Down Tigers 3-1

The Eastern Mennonite University soccer team defeated Hampden-Sydney 3-1 on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hampden-Sydney got on the scoreboard in the 24th minute when Hunter Weiland sent in a pass off a restart just past midfield and it ell to the ground just in front of the goal mouth where Spell Carr kicked it in
  • The Royals would tie the game in the 41st minute when Emmanuel Boamah headed in a feed from Dave Drafton
  • Caleb Oakes put the visitors in the lead when he converted a Troy Davis corner kick at 61:48
  • Forced to press up on offense shortly thereafter, the strategy nearly worked as a Hunter Weiland header at 83:26 went just inches over the crossbar and a Carr shot at 83:58 went off the left post and out of bounds
  • However, Eastern Mennonite capitalized on it on a counter attack as Erik Peachey sent a thru ball to Drafton who outsprinted the defense and finished a one-on-one with the goalkeeper
