Hampden-Sydney College

Tommy DiNuzzo is in his ninth year as Head Soccer Coach at Hampden-Sydney College during 2025-26. He was named the new head coach at H-SC on February 21, 2017. DiNuzzo previously served as the head coach of the University of Maine at Farmington from 2013-16. Tommy is currently 67-48-20 at the College, ranking third in wins among the 10 head coaches in the program’s history. DiNuzzo also serves as a strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department.

H-SC completed its 2024 season with a 9-6-3 overall record and a 6-2-2 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Tigers were the fourth seed in the ODAC Tournament, winning their quarterfinal past fifth seed Roanoke (2-1), before falling at top-seeded Lynchburg. H-SC placed four student-athletes on the All-ODAC Team.

The Tigers completed their 2023 season with a 6-6-6 overall record and a 3-3-4 record in the ODAC. They went undefeated to start the season with a 3-0-2 start to the season. H-SC was the seventh seed in the ODAC Tournament, falling in the quarterfinals at second-seeded Lynchburg. H-SC placed three student-athletes on the All-ODAC Team.

H-SC completed its 2022 season with a 9-7-3 overall record and a 3-5-2 record in the ODAC. The Tigers enjoyed a great start to the season, going 5-0-1 in their first six games. H-SC got to its third ODAC Tournament semifinal in four seasons with a thrilling 1-0 victory at top-seeded Lynchburg in the quarterfinals, before falling to fourth-seeded Roanoke in the semifinals. H-SC placed three student athletes on the All-ODAC Team, and two on the CSC Academic All-District Team.

H-SC completed an incredible season in 2019 with a school-record 14-match unbeaten streak (12-0-2), finishing the regular season as the top team in the ODAC to earn the top seed in the ODAC Tournament. The Tigers finished 13-5-2 overall, including 7-0-1 in the ODAC. Following a 1-5 start, H-SC put together a seven-game winning streak before a double-overtime tie against the University of Lynchburg (3-3). The Tigers followed with a five-match winning streak before once-again tying versus Lynchburg (2-2), this time in the ODAC Tournament semifinals, as the Hornets advanced on penalty-kicks.

The 2020 season was moved to the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but H-SC picked up where it left off  in 2019, finishing 8-1-1 overall, including a perfect 8-0 in the ODAC, to earn the top seed in the ODAC Tournament for the second consecutive season and for only the second time in program history, as well. After advancing past Ferrum (0-0) on penalty-kicks in the quarterfinals, the Tigers fell in the semifinals to Lynchburg, 2-1, in overtime, snapping the program’s ODAC-record 23-game unbeaten streak.

In his first season on the sidelines at H-SC in 2017, the Tigers improved by four wins overall and within conference play with a record of 10-7-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the ODAC. H-SC returned to the ODAC Tournament after a two-year hiatus, earning the fifth seed a year after finishing in 11th place. The Tigers recorded their first victory over Virginia Wesleyan University since 2006. The 10 wins marked just the second double-digit win season since 2010. H-SC finished 6-8-2 overall during both 2018 and 2021, while 4-5-1 and 3-5-1, respectively, in the ODAC during those respective campaigns.

Coach DiNuzzo came to H-SC after spending the previous four seasons as the head coach at Maine-Farmington. DiNuzzo took over a UMF program that won just two games the season before his arrival, and he was able to triple that win total in his third year, while also reaching the conference semifinals for the first time since 2011. Additionally, he had the most all-conference honorees since 2011.

Prior to his time at Maine-Farmington, DiNuzzo was an assistant coach at ODAC member Lynchburg (2011-13) and at his alma mater, the University of Mary Washington (2009-11).

A 2009 graduate of the University of Mary Washington, DiNuzzo was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Eagles.
