Betsy Leonard has announced her resignation as head swimming coach, effective August 1; however, she will remain in her role as the Director of TigeRec, a position that she has served since 2012. Betsy has served as the swimming program's first and only head coach since November 1, 2011, and compiled an overall record of 59-38 over 14 seasons, including a runner-up finish at the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. She previously led the Cross Country program for seven seasons, as well, from 2011-17.
The Tigers have enjoyed steady improvement throughout Coach Leonard's tenure, setting multiple new individual and relay school records year after year. The program operated independently for the first three years before beginning Old Dominion Athletic Confernce (ODAC) affiliation during 2014-15, and H-SC's Lee Ayscue was named the conference's first men's swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year that winter. The Tigers have had 13 All-ODAC selections since 2015, including two First Team honorees (Hudson Elmore, 2017; Woody Parsons, 2019), and Coach Leonard was named the ODAC Coach of the Year in 2017 when the Garnet & Grey finished second at the conference championship for their best-ever placing at the conference meet.
H-SC finished 2025 with a record of 4-3 overall in dual meets, including 1-2 in the ODAC, before finishing seventh at the ODAC Championships. The Tigers were 3-4 overall in 2024, 2-2 in the ODAC, placing eighth at the ODAC Championships. H-SC finished 2023 at 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the ODAC, finishing sixth at the ODAC Championships.
In 2022, H-SC finished 5-2 overall, 4-1 in the ODAC, and was sixth at the ODAC Championships. In 2021, the Tigers were 1-0 in their lone dual meet before finishing fourth at the ODAC Championships during a season limited by COVID-19. In 2020, H-SC was 7-4 overall, 4-3 in the ODAC, and was fifth at the ODAC Championships. In 2019, the Tigers were 5-4 overall, 4-3 in the ODAC, before placing fifth at the ODA Championships.
H-SC established a new school record for wins in 2018, finishing 9-4 overall, 7-2 in the ODAC, and was third at the ODAC Championships. The Tigers were 5-3 overall in 2017, 4-1 in the ODAC, and finished second at the ODAC Championships with six earning All-ODAC honors. H-SC finished 2016 at 5-5 overall, 0-2 in the ODAC, and was third at the ODAC Championships. The Tigers were 3-3 overall, 1-3 in the ODAC, and finished third at the ODAC Championships.
H-SC compiled an overall record of 11-3 during its first three years (2012-14), including 6-2 in 2014 and 4-0 in 2013, prior to the ODAC sponsoring championships in swimming.
Coach Leonard was the Assistant Director for TigeRec from 2010 to 2012 and was promoted to Director in December 2012. In her role with TigeRec, she is an AFPA (American Fitness Professional and Associates) Certified Personal Trainer and is the Fitness Instructor. During her tenure with cross country, the Tigers hosted the 2013 ODAC Cross Country Championships on November 2, 2013 at The Manor Golf Club located just minutes from campus.
She graduated from York (PA) College in 2002 and was a member of the school's swim and track teams.
Betsy has three sons: Isaiah '28, a member of the H-SC cross country and distance track teams, Gabe and Cooper.
