Abbie Laine is in her second year as an assistant athletic trainer at Hampden-Sydney College during 2025-26. She has primary sport responsibility for soccer, lacrosse, cross country and distance track. Laine earned her Master of Science degree in athletic training from her alma mater, the University of Lynchburg, in May of 2024. While a graduate student, she completed clinical experiences at Jefferson Forest High School (Fall 2022), Lynchburg (Spring 2023), Liberty University (Fall 2023) and again at Lynchburg (Spring 2024). During her time at Lynchburg, Laine worked with the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, men’s lacrosse, softball, as well as men’s and women’s swimming. She also completed and published a research project on “The relationship of sport type, body dissatisfaction, and eating disorder risk in female athletes” in 2024.
Abbie is a 2022 graduate of Lynchburg, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise physiology. She was a four-year member of the women’s cross country and women’s track and field team for the Hornets. Laine is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and licensed in the state of Virginia. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and served as secretary of Iota Tau Alpha (Athletic Training Honor Society) while a graduate student. Abbie has additional certifications in REVIVE: Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education, Safe Space Ally and Stop the Bleed, while an American Heart Association CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor.
