Duncan Wheeler is in his seventh year at Hampden-Sydney College during 2025-26, promoted to Head Golf Coach on June 2, 2025. He had served as the associate head coach since August 2022, after serving as an assistant coach for three years.
H-SC finished 2024-25 ranked 20th in the final SCOREBOARD powered by clippd NCAA Division III Men’s Golf rankings. The Tigers averaged 296.33 per round through 10 tournaments and 27 rounds, posting two Top Five among seven Top 10 finishes overall, including third at the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. H-SC was ranked 21st in the final SCOREBOARD Division III rankings for 2023-24. The Garnet & Grey averaged 298.19 through 10 events and 26 rounds, posting one win and five Top 10 among 10 Top 15 finishes overall, including second at the 2024 ODAC Championships. H-SC finished 2022-23 ranked 45th in the final Golfstat Rankings, posting two Top Five among four Top 10 finishes, including fifth at the 2023 ODAC Championships.
H-SC completed a season to remember during 2021-22, finishing as National Runner-Up at the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The Tigers posted a school-record, 72-hole score of 296-293-296-291--1176 to finish just eight shots out of first place. The Garnet & Grey also posted a 54-hole score of 282-281-283--846 to win the 2022 ODAC Championship, just the third-ever ODAC Championship in the sport, and the first for the program since 1996. H-SC was ranked No. 2 in the final Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches’ Poll, and 11th in the final Golfstat Top 25. The Tigers averaged 296.14 per round, 17th-best in DIII and fifth-best in the region, with six Top Five among seven Top 10 overall finishes.
H-SC was ranked 21st nationally in the final Bushnell Golfweek Poll for 2021, averaging 300.81 per round in six tournaments, 15th-best in DIII and seventh-best in the region, with two Top Five among four Top 10 overall finishes, including second at 2021 ODAC Championships. The program earned Top 10 National Rankings in both the Bushnell Golfweek Poll (fifth) and the Golfstat Top 25 (sixth) during his first season of 2019-20. H-SC posted one tournament win among six Top 10 (three top five) team finishes in six tournaments, averaging 289.44 per round to rank fourth in DIII.
Wheeler was a standout student-athlete at Knox (IL) College, where he played four years for the Prairie Fire and served as both Team MVP and captain. He was a three-time All-Midwest Conference (MWC) honoree, earning First Team All-Conference recognition in 2016 and 2019, and Second Team honors in 2018.

As a senior, Wheeler had a standout season highlighted by two individual tournament victories. He captured medalist honors at both the 2019 MWC Championship and the Blackburn Invitational. At the conference championship, he posted rounds of 74-71-76—221, setting both a conference and school 54-hole scoring record en route to the individual title.

Over the course of his collegiate career, Wheeler recorded four Top Five finishes and nine Top 10 finishes in 36 tournaments. He also tied for third at the 2016 MWC Championship, tied for sixth in 2018, and tied for 11th in 2017, consistently finishing among the top competitors.

A native of Parker, Colorado, Wheeler graduated from Knox College in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and minors in business and physics. He was honored with the John W. Hilding Prize, awarded to the senior student-athlete participating on a men’s team with the most outstanding career in intercollegiate athletics.
