Hampden-Sydney Cruise To An 8-1 Win Over Roanoke

SALEM, Va. -- Sophomores Barrett Foster (Virginia Beach) and Henry Singleton (Richmond) along with freshman Casey Coffey (Midlothian) all took singles and doubles victory as Hampden-Sydney College took an 8-1 win over Roanoke College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action, Saturday afternoon at the Elizabeth Campus Courts.

"The team made good adjustments all day to find a way to get momentum in their matches," said head coach Byron Balkin. "We played together and I'm really proud of our efforts today. We turn to tomorrow for an exciting day to celebrate our senior Patrick Conde."

Foster and Coffey opened up doubles play with an 8-5 victory in top doubles action. Freshman Dillon McReynolds (Abingdon) and sophomore Taylor Fox (Virginia Beach) were taken down by an 8-5 score line.  In the final doubles action, Singleton and his partner freshman Tanner Allison (Midlothian) won the tiebreakers 7-3 to take an 8(7)-7(3) victory.

Foster opened singles action by taking a tough first set 7-5 before controlling the second set to take it 6-3. McReynolds in his singles match showed fight, after falling in set one 6-0, he battled back to take set two 6-0 and set three 6-3 for the victory. Coffey and Singleton took care of their singles matches, with Coffey taking a 6-2, 6-4 victory and Singleton taking a 6-2, 6-2 victory. In the final two singles matches, Fox battled to take the first set 7-5 before cruising to a 6-0 victory in set two, while freshman John Glassner (Charlotte, NC) took his match 6-3, 6-4.

The Tigers will be back in action Sunday, April 16 at home against Ferrum College for senior day. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
