Hampden-Sydney Pick Up First Victory In ODAC Opener Against Virginia Wesleyan

Sweet Briar, Va. – Senior Andrew Rehak (Radford) took two individual victories, while sophomores Quinn Hardimon (Alexandria), Matt Brooks (Springfield), Brandon Hyde (Thousand Oaks, CA), and junior Patrick Duffy (Charlotte, NC), all won an event in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Virginia Wesleyan University, 114-92, Saturday afternoon at the Protho Natatorium at Sweet Briar College.

The Tigers also took a victory in one of the two relays of the meet, as the team of Hardimon, Rehak, Brooks, and Hyde posted a time of 4:50.44 in the 400 SC Meter Medley Relay. In the other relay event, the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, H-SC took second and third place. Hyde, Duffy, Hardimon and Rehak took second place with a time of 1:49.56, while the foursome of sophomore Kevin Busch (Greensboro, NC), freshman Rahul Parekh (Kissimmee, FL), freshman Jackson Piazza (Birmingham, AL), and sophomore Charles Adams (Mechanicsville), placed third with their time of 2:14.89.

Brooks was the only Tiger competing in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle, placing second with his time of 10:43.38.

The 200 SC Meter Freestyle was the first event that saw an individual Tiger victory, with Hardimon taking the event with a time of 2:12.45. He was followed up in fourth by Busch and fifth with Piazza with times of 2:48.43 and 2:50.07 respectively.

Duffy made it two straight event victories for H-SC with his time of 1:13.91 in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke. Piazza grabbed a third place in the event with a time of 1:28.69 and Parekh finished fourth with his time of 2:29.96.

Rehak grabbed the first of his two individual event victories and the third straight for the Tigers in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke as his time of 1:20.43 was tops by three seconds over second.

Hyde took another victory for H-SC, winning the 50 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 27.39 seconds, less than a second over the next finisher. Busch and Parekh came home to finish in fourth and fifth in the event, with times of 31.96 seconds and 42.32 seconds.

H-SC rattled off two more event victories, the first coming from Brooks in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle with his time of 1:00.56 just two seconds faster than his teammate Duffy in second place. Parekh finished fifth in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:41.08. Rehak took home the second victory as well as his second victory of the meet in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:35.15.

In the 400 SC Meter Freestyle, Hardimon missed out on his second victory by less than a tenth of a second, having to settle for second place with a time of 4:37.83. Busch was behind him in third position after his time of 6:20.03.

The Tigers grabbed second, third and fourth in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly. Hyde took home second with a time of 1:07.83 and Rehak grabbed third, finishing less than a second behind his teammate Hyde. Adams finished in fourth with his time of 1:14.17.

Duffy and Adams made it a second and third place finish in the 200 SC Meter IM. Duffy finished the event in 2:56.08 and Duffy finished with a time of 3:03.35.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, November 11, as they host their first event of the season against ODAC rival Randolph-Macon College. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Leggett Pool.
