KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- Freshman Justin Simpson/Farmville ran a season-best 8K time of 30:12 to lead Hampden-Sydney College cross country at the VertCross Invitational hosted by NCAA Division I High Point University on Friday evening at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, North Carolina. Appalachian State University won the 15-team race that included 11 Division I schools with its 57 points, while El Hocine Bouchrak of host High Point finished first individually with a time of 24:53.
Stimpson finished 114th among the field of 147 runners, as the Tigers finished 15th with 462 points, and was followed by freshman Ryan Haynie/Richmond (31:08, 124th), senior John Dyke/Keswick (31:40, 125th), sophomore Bennett Diggs/West Point (32:33, 130th), freshman Taisho Miller/Virginia Beach (32:51, 133rd), senior Thomas Gorman/Naples, Fla. (33:24, 137th), sophomores David Lowman/Staunton (33:25, 138th) and Christian Berner/Portsmouth (35:41, 143rd), along with freshman Adam Buell/Onancock (37:22, 144th). In addition to Stimpson, Haynie, Dyke, Miller, and Lowman each ran season-best 8K times, as well.
H-SC will race again next month on Saturday, November 2, at 11 a.m. at the ODAC Cross Country Championships, an 8K race at Green Hill Park in Salem.
