HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College swept all three doubles matches, as well as all six singles match-ups, for a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis victory past Randolph College at the H-SC Tennis Courts on Wednesday. The host Tigers improved to 3-7 overall, 2-0 in the ODAC, while the visiting Wildcats dropped to 0-10 overall, 0-4 in the ODAC.
In doubles, junior brothers Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. won at No. 1, 8-0. Junior Grayson Burns/Waynesboro and sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg won at No. 2, 8-1. Junior Clark Cummings/Norfolk and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. won at No. 3, 8-0.
In singles, Matthew Moody won at No. 1 by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Michael Moody won at No. 2 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Driskill won at No. 3 by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Brice won at No. 4 by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Andrew Donelson/McLean won at No. 5 by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Alex Zorko/Heusenstamm, Germany won at No. 6 by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
"It was awesome to get a team win for our home opener," said first-year head coach Byron Balkin. "The guys were locked-in from start to finish today. Our journey continues this weekend with three home matches, including two conference opponents. We're looking forward to those challenges."
H-SC is scheduled to play two contests at home on Saturday, March 23, beginning at 9 a.m. against nearby NCAA Division I Longwood University, followed by an ODAC match against Shenandoah University at 2 p.m., both at the H-SC Tennis Courts.
