LEXINGTON, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney swimming team opened its 2019-20 season at the ODAC Relays, finishing fifth among the 10 teams. The event was hosted by Washington and Lee.
In the 3x50 Butterfly relay, junior AJ Howard/Washington, N.C., sophomore Woody Parsons/Virginia Beach and junior Zach Stephan/Hampton tied for fourth in a time of 1:15.24, while the trio of senior Brandon Koch/Spotsylvania, sophomore Ben Hiter/Mineral and sophomore Jason Covaney/Williamsburg finished 10th in a time of 1:18.76.
In the second men's event, Covaney, junior Anthony Vinson/Richmond and Parsons finished eighth in the 3x50 Backstroke relay with a time of 1:23.76.
In the 400 yard freestyle relay, Howard, Covaney, freshman Nick Benson/Atlanta, Ga. and Parsons came in with a time of 3:35.04 to finish ninth in the event. Vinson, junior Eric Hope/Norfolk and Howard followed suit in the 3x100 IM Relay in a time of 3:13.37 to also finish ninth.
Koch, Howard, Stephan and Parsons finished fifth in the 500 Yard relay in a time of 4:30.79.
In the seventh men's event, Stephan, West, Howard and Koch finished 10th in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.74. The team of Vinson, Parsons, Koch and Stephan finished in fourth in the 100 yard dolphin kicking relay in a time of 53.73.
Vinson, Koch, Hope and Stephan finished eighth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.76.
The final team scores were in order: Washington and Lee 412.5, Roanoke, 282.5, Randolph-Macon 196, Lynchburg 187.5, Hampden-Sydney 120.5, Randolph 82, Bridgewater 50, Virginia Wesleyan 23, Greensboro 18 and Ferrum 17
The Tigers return to the pool on Friday, October 25 when they host Bridgewater. The dual with the Eagles gets underway at 4:00 p.m.
