HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney College junior Spell Carr/Clinton, N.C. has been named to the 2018 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State Men's Soccer Second Team. The midfielder had previously been named All-ODAC Second Team, as well.
Carr started all 16 matches during 2018 and led Hampden-Sydney in goals (7), assists (7) and points (21), tying for the team lead in game-winning goals (2). He scored two goals, including the game-winner, during a 3-1 victory against Emory & Henry on September 29, had one goal and two assists during a 4-1 road win at Averett on Sept. 12, and posted the game-winning goal during a 2-1 road win at Ferrum on October 19. Carr finished the season on a hot streak, registering at least one point in each of the final six contests and seven of the last eight matches overall.
Against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition-only, Carr ranked second among midfielders in goals (6) and points (13), while overall in ODAC games, he ranked sixth in goals and points, and tied for ninth in game-winning goals. His 21 season points represent the highest total by a Tiger since Bryan Wharton scored 28 (12g, 4a) in 2010.
University of Mary Washington midfielder Justin Carey was named the VaSID Player of the Year, and Christopher Newport University midfielder Tanner Dail was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Mary Washington's Jason Kilby was named the Coach of the Year.
