Sean Duffy, John Burke & Jake Brummett Earn 2019 VaSID Lacrosse All-State Honors | Duffy Rookie of the Year

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College freshman midfielder Sean Duffy/Ambler, Pa. was selected as the 2019 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year, as announced by the organization.  Duffy, along with senior captain and attackman John Burke/Richmond and sophomore face-off specialist Jake Brummett/Glen Rock, Pa., were each Second Team All-State selections, as well.

Duffy started all 19 games this season, scoring 29 goals with 13 assists for 42 points, adding 23 ground balls and one caused turnover.  He was third on the team in assists, while fifth in both goals and points.  Duffy tied for 25th in the ODAC in goals, tied for 27th in points and tied for 31st in assists.  Sean previously was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ODAC.

Burke, a team captain, also started all 19 games, scoring 33 goals with a new school-record 47 assists for 80 points, adding 19 ground balls and five caused turnovers.  He led the team in both assists and points, was fourth in goals and tied for 10th in caused turnovers.  Burke also led the ODAC in assists, tied for third in points and was 18th in goals.  He ranked 22nd in NCAA Division III assists per game (2.47).  His 80 points this season rank third-best all-time, and he completed his career with 69 goals and 79 assists (fifth all-time) for 148 points (15th all-time).  John previously was named honorable mention All-America by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, First Team All-South Region by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association and First Team All-ODAC.

Brummett played in all 19 games, while 237-364 on face-offs for an impressive 65.1 winning percentage.  He scored six goals with two assists for eight points, adding 164 ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Brummett led the team in ground balls, and led the ODAC, as well, while 24th in Division III ground balls per game (8.63) and 26th nationally in face-off winning percentage.  Jake previously was named Second Team All-ODAC.
