Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Head Coach Ray Rostan Earns 250th Win at H-SC

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney College Lacrosse Head Coach Ray Rostan recently earned his 250th career win at Hampden-Sydney College with a 17-7 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday in the Quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.

With 25 wins at R.I.T. and 15 victories at Ithaca, Coach Rostan has 290 overall career wins on his resume. The 290 wins is the third best mark in NCAA Division III history. Across all NCAA divisions, Coach Rostan now ranks 10th all-time in career victories. Coach Rostan's career winning percentage of 64% also places him 23rd on the DIII list of active head coaches and 28th all-time.

The Tigers have been a consistent winner under the direction of Coach Rostan. Hampden-Sydney has posted 21 winning records in his 27 seasons. H-SC has gone undefeated in the ODAC on four separate occasions. Additionally, the Tigers have finished the season ranked in the Top-20 17 times, including a #3 ranking in 1998. That year, the Tigers boasted the lowest goals against average in DIII at 6.50 and goalkeeper Scott Ketcham boasted the 20th lowest goals against average (5.78) figure in DIII history. Hampden-Sydney has advanced to seven NCAA Tournaments while coached by Coach Rostan, including an appearance in the 1999 and 2003 NCAA Quarterfinals, along with four ODAC Championships.

Ray Rostan has coached 56 All-Americans, highlighted by Jamie Worthen being tabbed the National Defenseman of the Year in 1998, along with four Academic All-Americans. Additionally, he has coached eight ODAC Players of the Year. Nine of his former players have been inducted into the Hampden-Sydney Athletic Hall of Fame.

While Coach Rostan has done an impressive job winning games, he has formed many young men into lacrosse coaches with the Rostan coaching tree having deep roots throughout the country. Six former Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse athletes are NCAA head coaches along with three high school head coaches.
