Hampden-Sydney Golf Ranked Fifth in Golfstat Division III Top 25 and the Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.—The Hampden-Sydney College golf team is ranked fifth nationally in both the Golfstat Division III Top 25, and the Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. The Tigers are ranked third by Golfstat in the extremely strong South Region that includes six of the top 25 teams in the country.

H-SC has six golfers ranked highly among the Golfstat national and regional individual rankings, including freshman Alex Rubino/Charlotte, N.C., who is 11th in DIII and fifth in the region with his 71.50 scoring average, and sophomore Hunter Martin/Gloucester Point, who is ranked 17th in Division III and ninth in the region with his 71.85 average.

The other nationally-ranked Tigers are senior Adam Hade/Richmond (73.54), who is 63rd in DIII and 22nd in the region, sophomore John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount (73.46), who is 65th in DIII and 24th in the region, senior Bruce Shober/Appomattox (73.62), who is 81st in DIII and 29th in the region, along with junior Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (77.20), who is 247th in DIII and 68th in the region.

H-SC, under the direction of head coach and Director of Athletics Chad Eiseleposted one tournament win among five Top 10 (three top five) team finishes in five tournaments this fall. The Tigers averaged 289.92 per round, sixth-best in Division III and third-best in the region. Rubino's 71.50 scoring average is 16th-best in DIII and fifth-best in the region, while Martin's 71.85 average is 27th-best in DIII and seventh-best in the region. Ferguson's 73.46 average is 29th-best in the region.

The Top Five teams in the South Region are Emory (#2/#2), Huntingdon (#4/#3), H-SC (#5/#5), Methodist (#13/#11) and ODAC member Guilford (N.C.) (#14/#12), while Washington and Lee (#27/#24) is ranked ninth in the region. (National rankings list Golfstat first, Bushnell Golfweek second)

H-SC has completed its fall season of competition and will not play again until March 9-10, 2020 at The Savannah Harbor Classic, a 54-hole tournament at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Georgia.
