MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. -- No. 13 Hampden-Sydney College posted a second-round score of two-over par 286 on Monday for a 36-hole team score of 571 (285-286) to move up into a tie for fourth among 18 teams at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational being played at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida. Seniors Bruce Shober/Appomattox (71-70) and Adam Hade/Richmond (70-71) are leading the Tigers with their respective two-day scores of one-under par 141, each tied for 15th individually among the 90 golfers.
Shober posted four birdies and 12 pars, and Hade added two birdies and 14 pars during the second round on the par 71, 6,725-yard layout at the Raven Golf Club at Sandestin. They are being followed by sophomore Hunter Martin/Gloucester Point (71-72--143, T-20th), junior Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (73-73--146, T-34th), along with sophomore John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount (75-75--150, T-59th). Martin added four birdies and 11 pars on the day for the Tigers, while Smith had two birdies and 12 pars, and Ferguson contributed four birdies and eight pars over the round.
The prestigious and highly-competitive tournament features 15 of the Top 24 teams nationally, as ranked in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan (284-275) is leading the event with its nine-under par 559, followed by No. 1 Emory (563) and. No. 3 Huntingdon (563), along with No. 13 H-SC (571) and No. 8 Methodist (571) among the top five. Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan is the individual leader through 36 holes at 10-under 64-68--132.
Fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference member and No. 5 Guilford stands 15th at 590.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday in Florida.
