HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College freshman Alex Rubino/Charlotte, N.C. has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for the period October 2-8. It's the second time this fall that he has won the award, and the third time that a Tiger has garnered the conference honor.
Rubino led H-SC to a school-record and tournament-record score of 17-under par 559 (278-281) to finish first among 18 teams at the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational on Oct. 7-8 at the Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club in Flowery Branch, Georgia. He led the Tigers with a two-day score of seven-under par 71-66--137 to tie for second individually among the 102 golfers at the par 72, 7,098-yard layout. Rubino posted a new collegiate-best for 36 holes (137), and his final-round 66 is also a collegiate-best, while the lowest round of the day and equaling the lowest round of the tournament. He tied for third in par 4 scoring (3.85), tied for fourth in birdies (10), tied for sixth in par 3 scoring (2.88), tied for 10th in par 5 scoring (4.63) and tied for 20th in pars (23).
Through four events and eight rounds of golf, Rubino leads H-SC with his impressive 71.4 scoring average that includes two rounds in the 60's among five rounds at par or better. He has the two wins among four Top 10 (three top five) individual finishes in the four tournaments.
Rubino was also named the conference golfer of the week for the period September 18-24. Teammate and sophomore John Hatcher Ferguson earned ODAC golfer of the week for the period September 11-17.
