WINCHESTER, Va. -- Freshman Alex Rubino/Charlotte, N.C. posted a 36-hole score of 75-73--148 to lead Hampden-Sydney College during its competition at the Greene Turtle Invitational golf tournament on Sunday and Monday at the Winchester Country Club in Winchester. The Tigers were competing with 10 individuals during the two-day event.
Rubino finished sixth individually among the 78 golfers at the par 71, 6,367-yard layout. He was followed by sophomore Sam McNamara/Charlottesville (80-76--156, t21st), junior Varun Yerramsetti/Birmingham, Ala. (78-79--157, t27th), freshman Trevor Elliott/Richmond (77-82--159, t36th), senior John David Gooden/Myrtle Beach, S.C. (79-85--164, t46th) and junior Dylan Taylor/Glen Allen (84-80--164, t46th), sophomore Keith Marks/Midlothian (85-80--165, 51st), freshman Ryan Corbett/Richmond (89-81--170, t58th), sophomore Jimmy Hill/Mechanicsville (90-85--175, 62nd) and freshman Bobby Wharton/Newport News (92-86--178, 67th).
Rubino and Elliott each tied for fourth among the field in birdies (5), while Corbett (4) tied for 12th. Rubino was sixth in pars (23), while McNamara (22) tied for seventh and Yerramsetti (19) was 22nd.
The H-SC B Team will compete again next week at the 36-hole Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament on September 16-17 at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg.
