JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Hampden-Sydney College posted a first-round score of 290 in men's golf on Friday to stand in a tie for fourth place among 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia. Junior Adam Hade/Richmond is leading the Tigers, ranked 14th in the latest Golfstat NCAA Division III Top 25, with his three-under par 69 at the par 72, 6,700-yard Pine Lakes course, tied for fourth among 150 golfers.
Hade is being followed by freshman John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount (70, t-11), sophomore Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (74, t-44), senior Jamie Agnew/Fairfax (77, t-83) and junior Bruce Shober/Appomattox (81, t-126).
No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 17 LaGrange (Ga.) are leading the event with their respective rounds of 288, while No. 1 Emory (Ga.) is third at 289. The Tigers are tied with No. 2 Huntingdon (Ala.) at 290 to round out the Top Five in the field that includes 14 of the Top 25 ranked programs in Division III. Three golfers fired rounds of four-under 68 for the individual lead, including Sam Rogers of LaGrange.
H-SC will continue its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Saturday and Sunday on Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia.
