SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Hampden-Sydney College posted a first-round team score of 298 in men's golf to stand tied for second among 18 teams at The Club at Savannah Harbor Classic on Monday, March 4, at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia. Junior Bruce Shober/Appomattox is leading the Tigers, ranked 20th in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III Top 25 Poll, with his day one score of one-under par 71, tied for second among 90 golfers at the par 72, 7,084-yard layout.
Shober is being followed by senior Jamie Agnew/Fairfax (75, t-16th) and freshman John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount (75, t-16th), sophomore Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (77, t-33rd) and junior Adam Hade/Richmond (79, t-51st).
Nationally-ranked No. 3 Huntingdon (Ala.) College is leading the event with its 296. The Tigers are tied with No. 10 Methodist (298), followed by No. 9 Guilford (300) and No. 18 Greensboro (301) among the top five teams. HC's Henry Gee is the individual leader at two-under 70 through 18 holes.
