HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College Director of Athletics and head golf coach Chad Eisele has announced a schedule change, due to the wet weather conditions, for his program's season-opening competition on March 4-5. The nationally-ranked No. 20 Tigers will compete in The Club at Savannah Harbor Classic on Monday and Tuesday (March 4-5) at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia. H-SC had been scheduled to play in the Callaway Gardens Invitational at the Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Georgia; however, that event was canceled due to unplayable course conditions.
The Tigers, ranked 20th in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III Top 25 Poll, will play against a strong tournament field of 19 teams. The field features eight of the top 20 programs in the country, including host and top-ranked Emory (Ga.) University, Huntingdon (Ala.) College (#2), Guilford (N.C.) College (#6), Methodist (N.C.) University (#8), Washington and Lee University (#9), North Carolina Wesleyan College (#13), Greensboro (N.C.) College (#15) and the Tigers (#20). Others in the event that are receiving votes in the national poll are Berry (Ga.) College, Oglethorpe (Ga.) University and Piedmont (Ga.) College.
H-SC earned four Top 10 team finishes in four fall tournaments, including a team title at the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament (288-289--577) to open the season September 24-25 at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. The Tigers finished 10th among a select 18 teams at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational (293-292-298--883) October 14-16 at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida.
