GREENSBORO, NC-The Hampden-Sydney golf team wrapped up its fall season with the seventh place finish in the competitive field at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament, played at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. The tournament, won by Guilford College (-3), featured 18 teams, including seven in the top-25 and four in the top-ten. Huntingdon (+6) and Methodist (+15) rounded out the top three.
Bruce Shober (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) paced the team, tying for sixth at two-over par with rounds of 74 and 70. Freshman John Hatcher Ferguson (Rocky Mount, VA/Franklin County) was just one stroke off Shober, tying for eighth courtesy rounds of 76 and 69.
Adam Hade (Richmond, VA/Deep Run) tied for 32nd at nine-over par (75-76-151). Varun Yerramsetti (Birmingham, AL/Indian Springs) shot a 156 overall (76-80) to place 57th at 14-over par, and Hunter Martin (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) rounded out the group at 19-over par (81-80-161) to tie for 71st.
Allen Smith (Durham, NC/Durham Academy) also faired well, competing as an individual while finishing in the top-25. He shot rounds of 76 and 72 to finish 23rd at six-over par.
The 17th-ranked Tigers begin their spring season on March 4 as they play in the Callaway Gardens Invitational at the Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, GA.
