Game Day Preview: #11 Hampden-Sydney vs. Virginia Wesleyan; Feb. 13

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The implications for Wednesday's match up are huge with the 11th ranked and ODAC-leading Tigers (21-2,13-1 ODAC) hosting the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan (17-6, 12-2 ODAC) in what could decide who will be crowned the ODAC Regular Season Champions and be rewarded with the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. The Tigers are currently one game ahead of Virginia Wesleyan, and with Wednesday being the only time these two teams meet, the winner holds any potential tie breaker.

The Tigers - who have been impressive all year - are a hot team right now, winning their last ten games, moving up six spots in the latest Top-25 poll, and ranking as the number one team in the South Region. They are also coming off of their largest margin of victory this year with a 95-49 decision over Bridgewater.

The Marlins, ranked #2 nationally preseason, stumbled a bit midseason dropping six games, but have won their last four games - including a 79-66 win over then-16th ranked Christopher Newport. The Marlins are currently receiving one vote in the latest Top-25 poll.

Prior to the 7:00 pm tipoff, the Tigers' five senior captains, Randall Ward (Richmond, VA/John Marshall), Patrick Corrigan (Richmond, VA/Collegiate), Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road), Fletcher Lumpkin (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin), and Alex Potapov (Moscow, Russia/Florida Air) will be honored.

Wednesday night's game is a blackout theme, so be sure to wear black if you are coming, and the first 250 students will receive a black Hampden-Sydney basketball tee shirt courtesy Bojangles of Farmville.
